It’s part of the scenic “Seven Sisters” range, which includes other notable peaks such as Mackoght (also known as “Little Errigal”) and Aghla More.

Where is Mount Errigal?
The mountain is situated near the village of Dunlewey (Dún Lúiche) in County Donegal and it is also close to other towns and villages like Gweedore (Gaoth Dobhair), Falcarragh (An Fál Carrach), and Letterkenny, the largest town in Donegal. The area is part of the Gaeltacht region, where Irish is widely spoken, giving visitors an opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage of the area.

Climbing Mount Errigal
Climbing Mount Errigal is a rewarding experience for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, but it can be challenging, especially in wet conditions. The ascent begins from a car park along the R251 road, and although the climb itself is relatively short—taking about 2 to 3 hours to complete—the steep gradient and boggy terrain at the base require caution.
As you ascend, the landscape transitions from marshy grassland to rocky paths, eventually leading to Errigal’s narrow ridge. On clear days, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Donegal’s rugged coastline, the Poisoned Glen, and the surrounding countryside.
Th Poisoned Glen has a 15km walking trail which should be attempted only by experienced hikers.
